Security Guard
From 01 April 2021 learners taking their Door Supervision training for the first time will need to show that they hold a current and valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate*.
This must meet the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. Training centres must confirm that each learner is sufficiently qualified in First Aid or Emergency First Aid.
Learners should, as a minimum, have achieved an Emergency First Aid at Work qualification covering the following outcomes:
• understand the role of the first aider,including:
o the importance of preventing cross infection
o the need for recording incidents and actions
o use of available equipment
• assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly, and effectively in an emergency
• administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
• administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use of an automated external defibrillator
• administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
• administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
• administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
• provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).
Under Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.
The qualification comprises 4 mandatory units:
Unit 1. Principles of Working in the Private Security Industry
Unit 2. Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry
Unit 3. Application of Conflict Management in the Private Security Industry
Unit 4. Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry
This qualification can enable the learner to progress onto the QCF in Providing Security Services or further learning in other areas of the private security industry as CCTV Operations
Unit 1. Principles of Working in the Private Security Industry
72-question multiple-choice examination paper.
Successful candidates must achieve a score of at least 50 out of 72.
Examination duration 110 minutes.
Guided learning hours for this unit are 17 hours.
Unit 2. Principles of Working as a Security Officer in the Private Security Industry
60-question multiple-choice examination paper.
Successful candidates must achieve a score of at least 42 out of 60.
Examination duration 90 minutes
Guided learning hours for this unit are 10 hours.
Unit 3. Application of Conflict Management in the Private Security Industry
20-question multiple-choice examination paper.
Successful candidates must achieve a score of at least 14 out of 20.
Examination duration 30 minutes.
Guided learning hours for this unit are 11 hours
